Main mixer – Mackie 1604

The overarching category ‚Main mixer – Mackie 1604‘ is a must with such an excellent mixer. The sound is clear, the routing options are complex and fascinating, and the weight and size of the device turn every gig into an adventure. Like a clock signal, this device is regularly added and removed from korberd’s live setups. Making sound compromises for better transport conditions is simply too big of a sacrifice.

This track is a live performance featuring the Alpha Base, a Eurorack system, and the Octatrack. All signals are fed to and from the Mackie 1604 mixer, with everything synchronized by the module Pamela’s New Workout. The Octatrack functions as a mixer with multiple channels for each voice, allowing the drums to receive compression and a deep low end.

The Alpha Base handles the drums, with each channel separated for greater control.

The bass line is also separated into multiple channels to enhance the analog sound. The pan of the Hexmix module is used as an additional mixer, with the send channels of the Hexpander corresponding to the send channels of the Mackie 1604, making it possible to route every signal anywhere.

Now it is time to experiment with this performance setup…
This jam shows the comeback of the Mackie 1604. It is just the best mixer in this studio. Maybe the eurorack mixers are compact but sometimes it is better to have more space to perform your tracks. It’s also useful to control the channel volume at different stages on your mixer. If you only have an output it gets very fun when everything is maxed out and you need more loudness.
Confusing Bassline consists of a sequence of the DFAM, plus sharpened hats and a very soft and diffuse atmosphere. The main melody comes from the sequence Bank 2 Pattern 5 in Mother 32’s random mode and is obscured by the Rainmaker and the Dual FX. This track lives from the contrast between the individual elements.
This track consists of the sequence Magenta 8, a constant DFAM bass line and a diffuse atmosphere coming from the Mother 32 Bank 2 Pattern 5 in random mode.
The first experiments with the Rainmaker were recorded on December 10th, 2022 with the sequence Green 2. The melody of this piece was played manually via the Rainmaker’s Comb Resonator. The bass line comes from the Mother 32 and was slightly distorted with the Analog Heat.
As with Green 2, the Green 1 sequence was also used for the first experiments with the Rainmaker. The tonality of the bass line is toggled back and forth via a slow LFO along with other parameters. The melody in the background was recorded manually with the Comb Resonator.
