About

Born in Bogotá/Colombia and based for many years in Cologne: korberd strictly creates abstract improvised modular music. His approach consists of melting sounds and sequences, constant motion, driving energy, and surreal atmospheres.

His goal is to generate hypnotic emotions to dive in:

“The present is the only connection between the past and the future. It seems almost paradoxical that neither exists and the present is basically nothing. But hardly anything other than music allows us to perceive the present moving through time.”

Musical influences

In the course of his life he listened to different music like Metallica, Korn, Rammstein, Tool, Amon Tobin, The Prodigy, Black Sun Empire, Noisia, Vangelis, Jean Michel Jarre, Fatboy Slim, Pendulum, Massiv Attack, Bonobo, Rob Dougan and also stuff like Tupac, Eminem and of course classical music (especially Baroque, Viennese Classicism and Impressionism). It was always important to him to understand what these artists were trying to express.

Music as a form of expression

During school and college, he learnt how to use FL Studios and began producing D&B and soundtracks. Since the workflow on the computer did not convince him, he worked for many years to set up his current studio.

„Music is a momentary transfer of energy and for this reason it represents a very pure way of expression. Technologically, it is possible to achieve recorded perfection. But living things cannot be kept in a glass jar. Not even to give us a vague impression of perfection.“

What is music for?

If music is purely for our enjoyment, then the sound experience has to be perfect. Each element must be recorded and processed individually and then all elements must be mixed up together and customized until the entire piece of music is flawless and ready for all audio systems in the world. At the end it is ideal and it is there for us. It is just to entertain you while you are sitting on your couch, like an old TV showing you something you do not really want to watch.

On the other hand, music can just point out existing emotions and show you how to dive into some sort of trance. If you are lucky, maybe your body begins to assimilate the motion of what you are listening to. Has it to be happy? Maybe it is important to face all kind of emotions to let your soul dance with the deep sound of a complex electrical circuit.

Ancient cultures used music in healing rituals, and even today, indigenous people dance around the fire to hypnotic rhythms and chants to cleanse their souls.

Try healing your soul with music too!
